Yoga for beginners perth Shenton Park Yoga West Studio

Have you ever wondered: Is it too late to begin yoga? Am I fit enough to start yoga? Where’s the best beginner’s yoga class in Perth?

The great news is, Yoga is for everyone. You don’t need to be an expert or at the peak of physical fitness. Right now, is always a good time to enrol in our Beginners Yoga classes, or take a Beginners Foundation Course

You may think that to do yoga you need to be flexible, and over time you will become more supple and able to reach postures you didn’t expect were in your range. You’ll also grow stronger as fitness levels increase.

The real benefits of yoga, though, is in dedicating time and space for youself away from the busy-ness of life, to explore your mind, body and soul. You will find even from your first class you’ll feel quieter and clutter-free. As you start to feel the benefits of yoga, you’ll become more aware of how things influence you: who you really are, your tendencies, diet, life, what is good for you and not so good for you.

Whatever your age, body size or physical condition, yoga will make you feel better – without exception.

Choose a class that suits your level, go in with an open mind and you will feel different, better, more open, present and happier

How often should I go to Yoga when I start?

As a beginner you usually start with 1 class per week but as you start to the feel the benefits, even after just one class, you may want to add in a second class. As yoga becomes part of your way of life students regularly come 2-3 times per week.

If you have never done yoga before and no idea what to expect its a good idea to start with a Foundation beginners course, this way you begin with others on the same level. Here you’ll learn the basics, and slowly gain confidence and awareness in your body in a safe and supported environment. As your body gets stronger so too will your mind. You’ll feel more self-confident and stronger in yourself.

Why yoga over other physical exercise?

The aim of Yoga is to help achieve ‘alignment’ – to connect the mental with the physical. In Iyengar yoga, alignment means that the inner mind connects with every cell and fibre of the body.

Yoga postures (asanas) tone and strengthen and tone the whole body. They strengthen bones, muscles, correct posture, improve breathing, and increase energy.

This physical well-being has a clarifying and calming impact on the mind, aiming to restore simplicity and peace, and free thoughts from confusion and distress.

While you stretch into the asanas, you’ll begin to feel a sense of inner and outer balance. This comes from the practice of breath awareness. Unlike other forms of exercise which strain muscles and bones, yoga gently rejuvenates the body.

After a session of yoga, the mind becomes tranquil and passive.

Iyengar Yoga for all levels of experience and fitness

At Yoga West we cater to the needs of each individual according to their specific constitution and physical condition.

The practice of yoga postures has a beneficial impact on the whole body. They not only tone the muscles, ligaments, joints, and nerves, but also maintain the smooth functioning and health of all the body’s systems. They relax the body and the mind, allowing both to recover from fatigue or weakness and the stress of daily life.

For injury recovery and athletes

Athletes know that yoga can train the body and mind, building agility, strength and focus. Over the years we’ve taught sports groups such as swimming, footballers and basketball players.

Incorporating yoga in your daily life will improve balance and flexibility, helping in prevention and treatment of injuries.
